The Racine Christmas Coalition, a non-denominational nonprofit founded in 2004, is dedicated to publicly celebrating the true meaning of Christmas through the installation of a large Nativity scene in downtown Racine’s Monument Square. This initiative aims to unite the community, regardless of individual beliefs, by providing a shared space for reflection on the season’s spiritual significance christmascoalition.com and racinechristmasnativity.org.
A pivotal moment in the Coalition’s history was the establishment of the Nativity display on St. Nicholas Day, December 6, 2006. This date was chosen to honor St. Nicholas, the patron saint of children and gift-giving, whose legacy underscores the values of generosity and compassion. The display’s unveiling on this day was not only a tribute to St. Nicholas but also a statement of faith and community unity.
Over the years, the Nativity scene has become a cherished tradition in Racine, attracting visitors from various backgrounds. The Coalition’s mission extends beyond the physical display; it fosters an environment where families can gather, reflect, and celebrate the season’s true meaning together. Through this initiative, the Racine Christmas Coalition continues to inspire a sense of community and shared purpose, reminding all of the enduring message of Christmas.
