The Christmas season kicks off in early November with the Holiday Parade through downtown Racine. The festivities start with carolers on Monument Square. The parade steps off at 5:30, with floats and music, and of course Santa Claus on his sleigh. After the parade comes the tree-lighting ceremony back on the Square, with Santa Claus illuminating the city’s tree. More caroling and fireworks follow, with festivities lasting well into the evening.
The Grinch takes over downtown on Small Business Saturday, when the lovable villain roams the sidewalks and shops, distributing gift cards to lucky shoppers. Grab a to-go coffee or cocoa from one of Racine’s downtown cafés and check out the special sales and offers available in the city’s unique, charming shops and galleries.
December comes sparkling in with a special edition of our beloved First Fridays celebrations. Check out “Fa La La” First Friday for live music, special shopping hours, and festive fun.
Just a few days after St. Nicholas’ Day, the Kris Kringle Tour presents different flavors of Wisconsin’s official state pastry, the Danish Kringle, at 30+ sites in downtown Racine–all for free! Choirs from local high schools create a festive ambiance with caroling, and Kris Kringle himself makes an appearance, offering photo opportunities and spreading cheer. Admire the decorated downtown windows and vote for your favorite, either on Facebook or on site.
Parking for all these events, and for visiting the Nativity, is available on the street (metered) or at the city’s four parking ramps ($4 all day):
